Who Is Jesus to You?
There are many questions that we have about life, but this is perhaps the most important of all. Jesus is not a fictional character created for religious purposes. He literally walked the face of the earth for over 33 years teaching, healing and loving others. Yet, He was also not merely another man. He was God! This is why we call Him Immanuel - God with us. In confirmation of Jesus' claim to be God, author C.S. Lewis writes:
"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him [Jesus]: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg - or else he would be the Devil of Hell. Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God."
The very God of the universe, the One who spoke and all creation came into being, the One who formed man with His own hands and then breathed His own breath into the lungs, the One who sits above time and space, the One who is majestic in His being, powerful in His presence and eternal in His essence, came to this earth to not only love you but to give His life for you. This same Jesus lives today and longs for a relationship with you.
You are not just another individual to fill a gap in time and space in history. You were created by God for a purpose, and He desires to have a relationship with you. You may feel that your past and your sin excludes you from this relationship but that is exactly why Jesus came, to pay a price for you that you could not pay and to demonstrate His incredible love and grace personally for you. He wants to set you free from guilt, shame and condemnation and give you abundant life here on earth and also eternal life forever with Him.
